He is well versed with using computer software.

Competent Qualifications should include a university degree in a construction related discipline or directly for Health, Safety & Environmental, supported by technical course certifications in the Safety field (e.g. OSHAS 18001, Fire fighting, First Aid, ISO 19000, general Safety courses, etc.) If degreed persons are not freely available, be on the lookout for persons with Diplomas from NEBOSH, OSHAS, NOSA, etc., as these cover the same points most degree courses cover and will be relative to the individual’s country of training. Be careful of “overqualified” people as they find it difficult to adapt to the practical work exposure.
Candidates should ideally be in the age group 35 to 50 years and experienced/trained in European, African and/or Middle East countries.
Direct Safety management experience should be in the minimum region of 5 – 10 years, supported by the same amount of time in senior supervisory capacity.
Exposure to international oil companies and related construction is good, as it will provide the candidate with experience in rigid well regulated projects that can easily be adapted to normal building projects.
Additional exposure to “remote” sites is also good, as the individual will be able to deal with difficult conditions.
